A closer look
The Apothecary Diaries becomes easier to follow when its relationships are separated by function: household ties, court hierarchy and the people connected to each investigation. Maomao's observations move between those groups. A small relationship chart is more useful than a list of names alone, especially when a character's public position differs from what another person knows about them.
