Story context
Steel Ball Run: JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken
A race across the American frontier brings Johnny Joestar into contact with Gyro Zeppeli and the strange power of his steel balls. Winning is only one reason the competitors keep moving through the harsh course. Pay attention to how the race links rival ambitions, difficult terrain and Johnny's personal search for a different future.
A second premise to compare
Vinland Saga
Thorfinn fights in Askeladd's mercenary band while waiting for a chance to avenge the loss inflicted on his family. His dependence on the very group he resents makes the journey more complicated than a chase. The manga invites attention to the cost of living for a duel, and to the people whose lives intersect with that purpose.
